Ukrainian airspace has been closed to civil aviation since 24 February 2022, and there are currently no direct flights between Kyiv and Tbilisi. The airline information below describes how this route worked before 2022 — it is still worth reading, because it shows which carriers are most likely to come back once the airspace reopens. Today, getting from Kyiv to Tbilisi means a combined journey: overland to a neighbouring country, and then a flight on to Georgia. Which airlines fly from Kyiv to Tbilisi?
The choice of airlines on this route has traditionally been wide, letting you pick a departure time that suits you and a fare that fits your budget.
The carrier with the longest history on the Kyiv–Tbilisi route is FlyUIA. Ukraine International Airlines flew from Boryspil to Tbilisi International Airport.
The second Ukrainian carrier on the route is SkyUp Airlines. Like FlyUIA, SkyUp also served Tbilisi International Airport from Boryspil.
The airline that joined Georgian skies in 2021 is Bees Airlines. Bees Airlines is one of Ukraine’s most budget-friendly carriers. Unlike the two airlines above, it flew to Tbilisi from Zhuliany airport.

How to travel from Kyiv to Tbilisi today
Since there is no direct flight at the moment, the journey has two stages.
Stage one — overland out of Ukraine. From Kyiv you travel by train or bus to a city in a neighbouring country that has a working airport. Poland is the most popular option: the Kyiv–Warsaw train takes around 16–17 hours, while Kyiv–Przemyśl takes about 10–14 hours, from where a Polish domestic train gets you to Warsaw easily. The alternatives are Moldova (Kyiv–Chișinău, around 17 hours), Hungary (Kyiv–Budapest, around 20 hours) and Austria (Kyiv–Vienna, around 23 hours).
Stage two — the flight to Georgia. From the city you have chosen you fly on to Tbilisi or Kutaisi. This is the leg where the price can vary the most, which is exactly where all the tips listed earlier in this article pay off.
Where you can fly to Georgia from
Warsaw is currently the best connecting hub, because among Ukraine’s neighbouring countries it is the only city with direct flights to Georgia:
- Warsaw (Chopin, WAW) – Tbilisi (TBS): LOT Polish Airlines, roughly six flights a week, about 3 hours 40 minutes in the air.
- Warsaw (Chopin, WAW) – Kutaisi (KUT): Wizz Air, daily, about 3 hours 30 minutes. From Kutaisi it is a further 3.5–4 hours by bus or transfer to Tbilisi.
There are currently no direct flights to Tbilisi from Chișinău, Budapest or Bucharest — from those cities the trip involves one stop, for example via Istanbul or Warsaw. Schedules change from season to season, so always check the current flights for your dates in our search engine.
What to keep in mind when planning the route
- The tickets are separate. Your train or bus ticket and your air ticket are not linked. If the overland leg runs late, the airline will not rebook you onto another flight free of charge. Leave yourself a buffer — ideally spend at least one night in the departure city before your flight.
- Border crossings take time. Checks on the Ukraine–Poland border can take several hours at peak times. Train timetables already allow for this, but delays are still common.
- Train tickets sell out fast. Ukrainian Railways tickets go on sale well before departure and disappear quickly on popular routes. It is best to book the train and the flight on the same day.
- Baggage. Wizz Air’s basic fare includes only a small under-seat bag; cabin and checked baggage cost extra. LOT’s economy fares normally include cabin baggage, while checked baggage depends on the fare type. Always add the baggage cost before you compare prices.
- Two airports in Georgia. Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) is close to the capital, while Kutaisi’s David the Builder airport (KUT) often has cheaper tickets but adds a 3.5–4 hour journey to Tbilisi.

Ukrainian citizens do not need a visa to enter Georgia, and Georgian citizens can enter Ukraine visa-free. Because the route passes through an EU country, keep the Schengen rules in mind too: holders of biometric passports from both Ukraine and Georgia may stay in the Schengen area visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Requirements change over time, so check the consular information for the relevant country before you travel.
