Which airline has the cheapest tickets from Tbilisi to Amsterdam?

Pegasus Airlines usually offers the lowest fares on the Tbilisi–Amsterdam route.

How long is the flight from Tbilisi to Amsterdam?

A direct flight from Tbilisi to Amsterdam takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes.

When is the best time to travel to Amsterdam?

You will have a wonderful time in this beautiful city at any time of year. Keep in mind, though, that winter days are short, dark and cold, while in summer the city is crowded with tourists and prices are high.

How to find cheap flights from Tbilisi to Amsterdam

  1. Book your tickets 1.5–2 months in advance.
  2. Choose midweek departures rather than weekends: demand for travel is lower on working days, so fares tend to be cheaper.
  3. Book both legs of your journey at once. Airlines and agencies usually offer better prices for a return ticket than for two separate one-way tickets.
  4. Use a search engine that brings together almost every airline and route, so you can find and book the ticket that suits you with the least effort.

You can buy cheap Tbilisi–Amsterdam flight tickets online quickly and conveniently using our search engine. Simply choose your departure and destination cities, enter the dates you want, and the system will show you every available flight, so you can pick the ticket that fits your budget.

Airports: where you depart from and where you land

You depart from Tbilisi International Airport (code TBS) and land at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (code AMS), one of the largest and busiest air hubs in Europe.

Getting from Schiphol into the city is straightforward: the railway station is located directly beneath the airport terminal. Trains reach Amsterdam Centraal in roughly 15–20 minutes and run frequently throughout the day. If your hotel is in another part of the city, you can also get off at Amsterdam Sloterdijk or Amsterdam Zuid.

Visas and travel documents

The Netherlands is a member of the Schengen Area. Georgian citizens holding a biometric passport do not need a visa and may stay for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

At the border you may be asked to present:

  • a valid biometric passport;
  • a return or onward flight ticket;
  • travel medical insurance;
  • a hotel booking or an invitation from your host;
  • proof of sufficient funds for the length of your stay.

Note that the European Union is gradually introducing new border systems (EES and ETIAS), and their full launch dates have been postponed more than once. Always check the current requirements on official sources before you travel.

Connecting flights: what to keep in mind

  • If you connect in Istanbul, you will pass Schengen border control in Amsterdam, because Türkiye is not part of the Schengen Area.
  • If you connect in Riga, you will clear border control there and arrive in Amsterdam on an internal Schengen flight.
  • When both legs are on a single booking, your luggage is often checked through to the final destination. If you bought the tickets separately, you will have to collect your bags at the transfer airport and check them in again.
  • With separately purchased tickets, the airline is not responsible for a missed second flight if the first one is delayed, so always leave a comfortable buffer between connections.
  • Airlines have different rules for cabin baggage size and weight, and with low-cost carriers checked luggage is usually a paid extra.

What to see in Amsterdam

  • The historic canal ring — the 17th-century canals are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a boat tour is a memorable way to see the city.
  • The Rijksmuseum — the national art museum of the Netherlands, home to Rembrandt’s most famous painting, “The Night Watch”.
  • The Van Gogh Museum — the largest collection of Vincent van Gogh’s works in the world.
  • The Anne Frank House — a museum in the building where Anne Frank’s family hid during the Second World War. Tickets are sold online only and sell out quickly, so book well ahead.
  • The Jordaan district — narrow streets, small galleries and cafés; the cosiest part of the city.
  • Vondelpark — the city’s central park, where locals come to relax and exercise.
  • Zaanse Schans — a village of traditional Dutch windmills near Amsterdam, perfect for a day trip.
  • Keukenhof — an enormous tulip garden that opens to visitors only in spring, roughly from late March to early May.

Getting around Amsterdam

The city’s trams, buses and metro are run by GVB. Instead of buying a ticket you can simply pay with a contactless bank card — tap it on the validator when you board and again when you get off. For a stay of several days, a day pass or a multi-day travel card works out cheaper.

Amsterdam is a city of bicycles. Renting one is easy, but bear in mind that the cycle lanes are busy and pedestrians need to stay alert.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct flight from Tbilisi to Amsterdam?

Yes. Georgian Airways operates direct flights on the Tbilisi–Amsterdam route. The frequency changes with the season, so check the exact dates in the search engine.

Amsterdam is 3 hours behind Tbilisi in winter and 2 hours behind during daylight saving time. The Netherlands moves its clocks forward in spring, whereas Georgia does not change the time seasonally.

Fares are generally lower in late autumn and winter, apart from the New Year period. In spring, during the tulip season, and in summer, demand and prices are both high.

Is English enough to get by in Amsterdam?

How long is the flight from Munich to Tbilisi?

Practical flight details: Munich – Tbilisi

The distance between Munich and Tbilisi is roughly 2,700 kilometres. The direct flight departs from Terminal 2 at Munich Airport and spends about 3 hours 50–55 minutes in the air. Departure is in the evening and the aircraft lands in Tbilisi late at night or early in the morning, which leaves you the whole arrival day free. Exact schedules change with the season, so always double-check dates and times before booking.

The time difference between Georgia and Germany is 2 hours in summer and 3 hours in winter — Georgia does not switch to daylight saving time. Departure and arrival times on your ticket are always shown in local time, so keep that in mind when arranging a transfer or asking someone to meet you.

Munich Airport is reached from the city centre on S-Bahn lines S1 and S8, a journey of about 40 minutes. Check-in for international flights normally closes 2–3 hours before departure, so plan to arrive at the airport early.

Connecting routes: where you can change planes

If the price of the direct flight does not suit you, connecting options are often noticeably cheaper:

  • Istanbul — Turkish Airlines via Istanbul Airport, Pegasus Airlines and AJet via Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
  • Warsaw — the Polish carrier LOT.
  • Vienna, Athens, Antalya, Frankfurt — depending on the season, convenient connections also appear through these hubs.

With a connection, the whole journey usually takes between 7 and 12 hours. It is safer to have both flights on a single ticket: if the first leg is delayed, the airline takes care of rebooking you, and your luggage is checked through to the final destination. With separately purchased tickets that responsibility stays with you, and you have to collect and re-check your bags.

Getting from Tbilisi Airport into the city

Tbilisi International Airport is about 17 kilometres from the city centre.

  • Bus №337 — runs from the airport via Avlabari, Rustaveli Avenue and Liberty Square to Station Square. The ride takes about an hour and can only be paid for by card — cash is not accepted.
  • Taxi or ride-hailing app — 25–30 minutes to the centre. A car ordered through an app is normally several times cheaper than an airport taxi.

If you land on a night flight, do not count on the bus: route №337 runs roughly from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book?

On this route the sweet spot is 1.5–2 months before departure. For the summer peak and the New Year holidays it is better to book three months ahead, as the cheap seats sell out quickly.

When are tickets cheapest?

Fares are lowest in the low season — late autumn and winter, apart from the New Year holidays. In summer demand rises and tickets become more expensive.

Is checked baggage included in the fare?

That depends on the fare type. The cheapest economy fares (Lufthansa’s Economy Light, for example) often include cabin baggage only, with checked bags charged separately. With low-cost carriers such as Pegasus and AJet, luggage is almost always priced on top. So when you compare prices, add the baggage fee — otherwise the cheap ticket turns out to be the expensive one.

Do I need a visa?

Georgian citizens with a biometric passport can travel visa-free in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period; the European Commission has suspended visa-free travel for holders of Georgian diplomatic and service passports. Citizens of EU countries do not need a visa to enter Georgia. The rules change from time to time, so check the official sources before you travel.

Direct or connecting flight?

If time and comfort matter most, take the direct flight — you are in Tbilisi in under four hours. If budget comes first and you travel with cabin baggage only, a connecting flight works out cheaper; just allow at least 1.5–2 hours for the transfer.

The city is of course home to “Oktoberfest”, the most famous beer festival in the world, held here every year.

Tbilisi to Munich at a glance

  • Distance: roughly 2,690 km as the crow flies
  • Direct flight time: about 4 hours 15 minutes
  • Departure airport: Tbilisi International Airport (TBS)
  • Arrival airport: Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport (MUC), Terminal 2
  • Time difference: Munich is 2 hours behind Tbilisi in summer and 3 hours behind in winter
  • Currency: euro (EUR)

Schedule and aircraft on the direct flight

Lufthansa currently operates the non-stop Tbilisi to Munich service daily. Departures from Tbilisi are early in the morning, roughly between 05:00 and 06:15, which means getting to the airport during the night, at least two to three hours before take-off. The route is flown by Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, with both Economy and Business class on board. Timetables shift with the season, so check the exact departure time on the airline’s own website before you book.

In Munich, Lufthansa arrives at Terminal 2. Most Star Alliance flights are handled from the same terminal, so if you have an onward connection from Munich you will probably not need to change terminals.

Getting from Munich Airport into the city centre

The airport sits some way out of town to the north-east, but public transport makes the trip straightforward:

  • S-Bahn (suburban train): lines S1 and S8 link the airport with the city centre and run every 10 to 20 minutes. The S8 reaches Marienplatz in about 38 minutes and the central station (Hauptbahnhof) in about 40; the S1 takes roughly 45 minutes to Hauptbahnhof.
  • Lufthansa Express Bus: departs about every 20 minutes and reaches the central station in roughly 45 minutes. It is the easier option if you are travelling with heavy luggage.
  • Taxi or ride-hailing apps: about 30 to 45 minutes to the centre, depending on traffic.

One thing to watch: on the way out to the airport, S1 trains split in two at Neufahrn and only the rear carriages continue to the airport, so check the destination shown on the carriage before you board.

For the journey between the airport and the city you need an MVV zone M-5 ticket, which also covers onward travel by U-Bahn, tram and bus. Fares are revised from time to time, so check the current price on the official MVV website before you travel.

Worth knowing before you fly

  • Baggage allowance depends on the fare. The cheapest Economy fares often include hand luggage only, with checked bags sold separately, so read the conditions carefully before buying.
  • On connecting itineraries leave at least 1.5 to 2 hours for the transfer, especially if the two flights were bought on separate tickets — in that case the airline is not responsible for a missed connection.
  • Germany is part of the Schengen Area. Before departure, check the visa and border rules that apply to you, the validity of your passport and any travel insurance requirements.
  • Most shops in Munich are closed on Sundays, which is worth keeping in mind when planning your days.

Which airline has the cheapest flights from Madrid to Tbilisi?

Pegasus Airlines usually offers the cheapest tickets from Madrid to Tbilisi.

How to buy cheap flights from Madrid to Tbilisi

  1. Book your tickets 1.5-2 months in advance.
  2. Fly midweek rather than at the weekend. Demand for travel is lower on working days, so fares are usually lower too.
  3. Book both legs at the same time. Airlines and agencies tend to offer better prices for a return ticket than for two one-way tickets bought separately.
  4. Use a search engine that brings together almost every airline and flight, so that finding and booking the ticket you want is as simple as possible.

Other airlines on the Madrid – Tbilisi route

Besides the carriers listed above, there are several more ways to get from Madrid to Tbilisi:

  • Lufthansa — connecting in Munich.
  • Air Serbia — connecting in Belgrade.
  • AJet — connecting at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen or Ankara.
  • Self-built routes on low-cost carriers (easyJet, Transavia, Sky Express) are often the cheapest option, but the tickets are separate bookings, so re-checking your luggage and the risk of a missed connection are entirely your own responsibility.

How long does the flight from Madrid to Tbilisi take?

The distance between Madrid and Tbilisi is roughly 4,000 kilometres and there is no non-stop service on this route. Pure flying time across both legs adds up to about six hours; with the layover included, the journey normally takes between 9 and 14 hours. The quickest itineraries usually run through Istanbul or Athens.

Keep the time difference in mind as well: Tbilisi is three hours ahead of Spain in winter and two hours ahead in summer, because Georgia does not change its clocks seasonally.

The Kutaisi alternative

If your dates are flexible and budget is the main criterion, it is worth looking at Kutaisi International Airport too. Wizz Air operates direct flights between Barcelona and Kutaisi, so getting from Madrid to Barcelona by domestic flight or train and then flying non-stop often works out cheaper than a classic connecting route. Bear in mind that the tickets are separate bookings and that you will still have around 230 kilometres to cover from Kutaisi to Tbilisi by bus or transfer.

Useful things to know before you fly

  • Airports: you depart from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) and land at Tbilisi International Airport (TBS), about 17 kilometres from the city centre.
  • Terminal: Madrid airport has several terminals and the airlines are spread between them, so always check your terminal on your booking and boarding pass.
  • Connections: if both flights are on a single booking, your luggage is normally checked through to the final destination. With separately bought tickets you will have to collect and re-check your bags, and sometimes you will need a transit visa for the connecting country.
  • Visas: citizens of Spain and other EU countries can enter Georgia visa-free and stay for up to one year. Georgian citizens with a biometric passport can travel to the Schengen area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The EU is preparing to launch the ETIAS travel authorisation system, so check the rules in force before you travel.
  • Baggage: the cheapest fares often include cabin baggage only. Adding a checked bag at the time of booking is almost always cheaper than paying for it at the airport.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct flight from Madrid to Tbilisi?

No, there is currently no non-stop service. Every option involves one, and occasionally two, connections — most often in Istanbul, Athens, Munich or Belgrade.

When are tickets cheapest?

The low season on this route is the winter months (January to March, apart from the New Year period), while summer and holiday weeks are the most expensive. Prices also drop when you book 1.5-2 months ahead and fly midweek.

How long should my layover be?

For flights on a single booking, 1.5-2 hours is enough. If you bought the tickets separately, leave at least 3-4 hours so that a delay on the first leg does not cost you the second flight.

What should I factor in when comparing prices?

Add the cost of baggage, seat selection and getting to the airport to the headline fare — a slightly more expensive ticket sometimes turns out to be the better deal overall.

There are no direct flights between Tbilisi and Madrid — every option involves a connection. The flight from Tbilisi to Istanbul takes roughly 3 hours, and Istanbul to Madrid about 4 to 4.5 hours. If you connect in Athens, each leg takes around 3 to 4 hours.

Including the layover, the total travel time usually ranges from 8 to 14 hours. If time matters to you, look for an itinerary with a connection of 1.5–3 hours: anything shorter is risky, while a 6–8 hour wait makes the trip unnecessarily long.

Madrid airport and getting into the city

Madrid’s international airport is Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas (code MAD), about 12 kilometres from the city centre. It has four terminals (T1, T2, T3 and T4 with its satellite building T4S), so always check which terminal is printed on your ticket before you travel.

The main ways to reach the centre are:

  • Metro line 8 — connects the airport with Nuevos Ministerios station, where you can easily change to other lines. A supplement is added to the standard fare at the airport stations.
  • Cercanías line C-1 — a train from Terminal 4 to the city’s central stations, including Atocha.
  • Express Aerobús — a bus running 24 hours a day from all terminals to the city centre.
  • Taxi — a fixed fare applies between the airport and the centre, which is especially convenient if you land late at night.

Visa rules and the documents you need

Spain is part of the Schengen Area. Georgian citizens with a biometric passport can travel visa-free within the Schengen zone for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Before you set off, keep the following in mind:

  • Your passport must be biometric, issued within the last 10 years, and valid for at least 3 months beyond your date of return.
  • Border officers may ask to see a return ticket, proof of accommodation, travel insurance and evidence of sufficient funds.
  • Visa-free travel applies to holders of ordinary biometric passports; different rules apply to service and diplomatic passports.
  • The EU is gradually introducing new digital border systems (EES and ETIAS), so check the rules currently in force on official sources before you travel.

Time difference, currency and weather in Madrid

Madrid is 3 hours behind Tbilisi in winter and 2 hours behind while summer time is in effect. The currency is the euro; card payments are accepted almost everywhere, though it is still worth carrying a little cash.

Madrid has a continental climate: summers are dry and hot, with July and August temperatures often above 35°C, while winters are fairly mild, although temperatures can drop to freezing at night. That is why spring and autumn are considered the most comfortable seasons for sightseeing.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct flight from Tbilisi to Madrid?

No, there are no direct flights on this route. The journey requires one connection, most often in Istanbul or Athens.

Do Georgian travellers need a transit visa in Istanbul?

Georgian citizens can enter Turkey without a visa, so connecting in Istanbul is not a problem. Just bear one detail in mind: Istanbul has two airports — Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW). If your flights depart from different airports, allow extra time to transfer between them.

What baggage is included in the ticket price?

That depends on the fare. The cheapest low-cost fares usually include only a small piece of hand luggage, with checked baggage sold separately. Fares from full-service airlines more often include checked baggage. Always check the baggage conditions before you buy.

When is the best time to book?

For this route, 1.5–2 months before departure is the sweet spot. For the summer season and the New Year holidays it is worth booking earlier — ideally at least 3 months ahead.

How much does a flight from Tbilisi to Madrid cost?

The price depends on the season, the fare and how early you book, and it changes constantly. To see current prices, use the fare calendar above or our search engine.

Which airlines have the cheapest tickets from Barcelona to Tbilisi?

Pegasus Airlines and Bees Airlines have offered the lowest fares on the Barcelona to Tbilisi route.

How to find cheap flights from Barcelona to Tbilisi

  1. Book your ticket 1.5 to 2 months in advance.
  2. Fly midweek rather than at the weekend — demand is lower on working days, so fares tend to be cheaper.
  3. Book both legs at the same time. Airlines and agencies usually offer better prices for a return ticket than for two one-way tickets bought separately.
  4. Use a search engine that brings together almost every airline and flight, so you can find and book the ticket you want more easily.

You can buy cheap Barcelona to Tbilisi tickets online quickly and comfortably through our search engine. Just choose your departure and destination cities, enter the dates you want, and the system will show you every available flight, so you can pick the ticket that fits your budget.

Flight time and distance from Barcelona to Tbilisi

The air distance between Barcelona and Tbilisi is roughly 3,600 kilometres. Flights on this route normally involve one stop, so your total travel time depends mostly on how long the layover is:

  • The most convenient options, with a short one- to two-hour connection, get you there in about 7 to 9 hours.
  • Cheaper options often come with a long or overnight layover, stretching the journey to anywhere between 12 and 20 hours.

Keep the time difference in mind as well: Georgia is three hours ahead of Spain in winter and two hours ahead in summer. That is why your arrival time in Tbilisi looks much later than the actual flight time would suggest.

Popular connecting routes from Barcelona to Tbilisi

  • Istanbul — Turkish Airlines via Istanbul Airport (IST) and Pegasus Airlines via Sabiha Gökçen (SAW). This is the option with the most frequent flights and the most flexible schedules.
  • Riga — airBaltic. The Latvian carrier serves both Barcelona and Tbilisi, so the whole journey can be booked on a single ticket.
  • Belgrade — Air Serbia, often at attractive fares.
  • Munich, Frankfurt, Vienna or Zurich — the Lufthansa Group airlines: Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and SWISS.
  • Routes via Warsaw, Athens, Budapest and Doha also show up regularly. Their availability depends on the season, so it is worth checking your specific dates.

A connecting flight booked on a single ticket is always the safer choice: if the first leg is delayed, the airline has to rebook you on the next available flight. With two separate tickets there is no such guarantee, and the cost of a missed connection is yours to carry.

Barcelona and Tbilisi airports

Barcelona — El Prat Airport (BCN). It lies about 15 kilometres from the city centre and has two terminals, T1 and T2, linked by a free shuttle bus. The metro, the Aerobús and suburban trains all run into the city. For an international flight it is best to arrive 2.5 to 3 hours before departure — security queues get long in high season.

Tbilisi — Shota Rustaveli International Airport (TBS). It is about 17 kilometres east of the city centre. You can reach the centre by taxi, city bus or a pre-booked transfer. If your flight lands at night or very early in the morning, arrange the transfer in advance.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book?

The best fares on this route are usually found 1.5 to 3 months before departure. In high season — summer, the New Year period and Easter — book even earlier, because the cheapest fare classes sell out quickly.

Which time of year is cheapest?

The lowest prices are generally found in late autumn and winter, from November through March, apart from the New Year holidays. Summer and September are high season on this route, and fares rise accordingly.

Do I need a transit visa?

Transit rules differ by country and by the passenger’s nationality, and sometimes also depend on whether both legs are on one ticket and whether you have to collect and re-check your baggage. Always check the current rules for your transit country from an official source before booking.

Is baggage included in the fare?

It depends on the airline and the fare type. The cheapest low-cost fares often include only one small cabin bag, with checked baggage sold separately, while full-service airlines more often include a checked bag. When comparing prices, always add the cost of baggage — a more expensive ticket can work out cheaper overall.

How much time should I leave for the connection?

Leave at least 1.5 to 2 hours between international flights, and more than 2 hours at large airports such as Istanbul or Frankfurt. If your baggage is checked through to your final destination, you will not need to collect and re-check it in transit, which saves a lot of time.

Tbilisi to Barcelona: a quick route overview

  • Departure: Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli International Airport (TBS)
  • Arrival: Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN), about 15 kilometres from the city centre
  • Non-stop flights: there is currently no direct service from Tbilisi to Barcelona — the route is flown with one or two stops
  • Journey time: the most convenient connecting itineraries take roughly 6 to 8 hours including the layover

Popular connecting airports

  • Istanbul — Turkish Airlines and AJet from the new airport (IST), Pegasus Airlines from Sabiha Gökçen (SAW)
  • Yerevan — FlyOne Armenia, one of the shortest connections available
  • Vienna — Austrian Airlines, connecting within the Lufthansa Group network
  • Athens — Aegean Airlines
  • Other options — Belgrade (Air Serbia), Bucharest, Rome and Milan

Before you book, compare more than just the ticket price: a two to three hour layover is usually comfortable, while a ten hour wait can turn even a cheap fare into an expensive trip.

The non-stop alternative from Kutaisi

If your dates are flexible, take a look at Kutaisi David the Builder International Airport as well: Wizz Air operates non-stop flights from there to Barcelona several times a week. The flight takes about 5 hours and often works out cheaper than a connecting itinerary.

Keep in mind that you need to add the cost and time of getting from Tbilisi to Kutaisi (roughly 4 hours by bus or minibus). The schedule changes seasonally, so check the operating days before you book.

Baggage and fare types — what to watch out for

  • With low-cost carriers, the cheapest fare normally includes only a small bag that fits under the seat in front of you. A larger cabin bag and checked luggage are paid extras.
  • Always add baggage online in advance — buying it at the airport check-in desk costs considerably more.
  • On connecting flights, make sure your luggage is checked through to the final destination. If you bought two separate tickets, you will have to collect and re-check your bags at the transfer airport.
  • Full-service airlines such as Turkish Airlines, Austrian and Aegean often include checked baggage in the fare — once you add luggage to a low-cost ticket, the total can end up higher.

Connections and how much time to allow

  • If both legs are on a single ticket, the airline is responsible for rebooking you free of charge when the first flight is delayed.
  • If you bought the tickets separately, the risk is yours — leave at least 3 to 4 hours between flights.
  • You will clear Schengen border control at your first Schengen country (Vienna or Athens, for example) and arrive in Barcelona on a domestic-style flight.
  • When connecting in Istanbul, remember that IST and SAW are two different airports — moving between them takes 1.5 to 2 hours.

Getting from Barcelona airport to the city centre

El Prat Airport has two terminals, T1 and T2. Which one you arrive at depends on the airline, and a free shuttle bus runs between them.

  • Aerobús — an express bus from both terminals to Plaça Catalunya, running every 5 to 10 minutes during the day. It is sold as a separate ticket and is not covered by the city’s integrated travel passes.
  • Metro L9 Sud — serves both terminals. A special ticket is required at the airport stations: the ordinary T-casual pass is not valid there.
  • Rodalies R2 Nord train — departs from Terminal 2 only, stopping at Barcelona Sants, Passeig de Gràcia and El Clot-Aragó. It runs roughly every half hour and all integrated city tickets are valid.
  • Taxi — the fastest but the most expensive option; the ride to the centre takes about 25 to 30 minutes.

Documents and border formalities

  • Georgian citizens with a biometric passport do not need a visa for Spain — stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period are allowed.
  • Your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years and remain valid for at least 3 months beyond your return date.
  • Since October 2025 the Schengen area has been gradually introducing the electronic EES system, which records biometric data (fingerprints and a facial image) instead of stamping passports. The first crossing takes longer than usual.
  • The online travel authorisation ETIAS (a EUR 20 fee) is planned to come into force towards the end of 2026. Check before departure whether the requirement already applies to your trip.
  • Border officers may ask to see a return ticket, accommodation booking, travel insurance and proof of sufficient funds.

Time difference and weather in Barcelona

Spain switches to summer time, so the gap changes through the year: in summer Barcelona is 2 hours behind Tbilisi, in winter 3 hours. This matters in particular when you are calculating connection times.

Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate: summer daytime temperatures often reach 28-30°C with high humidity, while winters are mild, usually around 10-15°C during the day. May and October tend to offer the most comfortable weather together with lower prices.

Which airline has the cheapest tickets to Barcelona?

Low-cost carriers — Pegasus Airlines from Tbilisi and Wizz Air from Kutaisi — normally offer the most budget-friendly fares to Barcelona, provided you travel light.

When is the best time to travel to Barcelona?

As we mentioned, Barcelona is wonderful at any time of year, so base your choice on the weather and on prices. In summer the city attracts a huge number of tourists thanks to the excellent weather, the beaches and the sea, and this is reflected in both air fares and hotel rates. For a more budget-friendly trip, travel between autumn and spring.

How to find cheap Tbilisi to Barcelona flights

  1. Book your tickets 1.5 to 2 months in advance.
  2. Choose midweek departures rather than weekends: demand is lower on working days and tickets are cheaper.
  3. Buy both directions at once. Airlines and agencies usually offer better prices for a return ticket than for two one-way tickets.
  4. Use a search engine that brings together almost every airline and flight, so you can find and book the ticket you want more easily.

Note: rail links at Vienna Airport are temporarily changed

From 7 September 2026 until 31 October 2027 a section of railway line in Vienna is closed for modernisation work, which also affects travel between the airport and the city centre:

  • During this period the City Airport Train (CAT) runs as a coach service instead of a train and reaches Wien Mitte in about 21 minutes.
  • The S7 line only runs as far as St. Marx station, from where you continue into the centre by tram or bus.
  • OBB long-distance trains (Railjet, ICE) and the REX 7 take you from the airport to Wien Hauptbahnhof in roughly 15-20 minutes, which is currently one of the most convenient options.

Normal rail service will resume once the works are finished.

Direct flights from Vienna to Tbilisi

Besides Georgian Airways, Austrian Airlines also operates nonstop flights on the Vienna – Tbilisi route. This Austrian carrier is a Star Alliance member and uses Airbus A320 aircraft on the route (flights OS907 and OS908). Georgian Airways serves the same route with a Boeing 737-800 (flights A9681 and A9682).

Between them the two airlines operate around five nonstop flights a week, although frequencies change with the season. Always check the current timetable before you book.

Actual flight time can differ from the scheduled block time by several tens of minutes because of wind direction.

  • Check whether checked baggage is included in the fare. The cheapest fares often include cabin baggage only.
  • Allowed cabin bag size and weight differ from airline to airline – Pegasus Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Austrian Airlines all apply different rules.

  • On a connecting flight, confirm whether your bag is checked through to the final destination or has to be collected and re-checked at the transfer airport.

When is the best time to book

Demand on the Vienna – Tbilisi route rises in summer, from June through September, and again over the Christmas and New Year period. Those are the times when fares are highest.

Cheaper tickets are easier to find in late autumn and in the middle of winter. Midweek departures, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, also tend to be better value than Friday and Sunday flights.

Direct Tbilisi – Vienna flights: who operates them today

Two airlines currently operate nonstop flights between Tbilisi and Vienna: Austrian Airlines and Georgian Airways. Austrian Airlines added Tbilisi to its network in 2024 and serves the route with Airbus A320 family aircraft, while Georgian Airways uses the Boeing 737-800. A nonstop flight takes roughly 3 hours 30-40 minutes.

Frequencies change with the season – there are normally more flights in summer than in winter – so always check the current timetable before you settle on a date.

The most common connecting options are Istanbul (Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines), Warsaw (LOT Polish Airlines), and Munich or Frankfurt (Lufthansa). Connecting itineraries are often cheaper, but the total travel time grows considerably and, depending on the layover, can exceed seven hours.

Getting from Vienna Airport to the city centre

Vienna International Airport (Flughafen Wien-Schwechat, code VIE) lies about 18 kilometres south-east of the city centre. There are several ways to reach the centre:

  • City Airport Train (CAT) – a direct link to Wien Mitte station, around 16 minutes.
  • S7 suburban train – the cheapest option; about 25 minutes to the centre.
  • ÖBB trains, including the railjet – roughly 15-20 minutes to Vienna’s main station (Wien Hauptbahnhof).
  • Vienna Airport Lines buses – serving several hubs around the city.
  • Taxi or a pre-booked transfer – the most comfortable but also the most expensive choice.

Please note that ongoing railway works in Vienna mean airport train timetables change from time to time, and trains are occasionally replaced by buses. Check the latest information on the airport’s and ÖBB’s official websites before you travel.

Visas and the new border rules

Holders of a Georgian biometric passport do not need a visa for Austria – you may stay in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Since 10 April 2026 the European Union’s Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully operational at the external borders. Instead of a passport stamp, your data is now recorded electronically, and on your first entry the border officers take your fingerprints and a facial image. The procedure takes a few minutes, so passport control queues on arrival can be longer than they used to be.

The separate travel authorisation system, ETIAS, has not yet come into force, and the EU has not announced a firm start date for it. Check the rules in force on official sources before you depart.

At the border you may be asked for a return ticket, proof of accommodation, travel insurance and evidence of sufficient funds.

Time difference and other practical details

  • Time difference: Georgia is on UTC+4, Austria on UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer. Vienna is therefore 3 hours behind Tbilisi in winter and 2 hours behind in summer.
  • Currency: the euro (EUR).
  • Language: German; English is widely spoken in tourist areas and hotels.
  • Airport arrival: for international flights it is advisable to be at the airport 2-3 hours before departure.
  • Public transport: Vienna’s metro, trams and buses share one ticket system; 24, 48 and 72-hour passes are good value for visitors.

What to see in Vienna

  • Schönbrunn Palace – the Habsburgs’ former summer residence and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • The Hofburg – the imperial palace complex in the heart of the city.
  • St. Stephen’s Cathedral – Vienna’s emblem, with its soaring Gothic tower.
  • The Belvedere – the gallery that houses Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss”.
  • Kunsthistorisches Museum – one of the richest art collections in Europe.
  • The Prater – the city park with its famous Ferris wheel.
  • Naschmarkt – Vienna’s best-known market.

It is also worth remembering that Wizz Air’s Georgian base is at Kutaisi International Airport, which is linked by direct flights to a number of European cities. If you are flexible about where you land, it pays to check fares to Kutaisi as well — the bus or transfer ride from Kutaisi to Tbilisi takes roughly 3.5 to 4 hours.

The most common connecting cities

  • Istanbul — Turkish Airlines via Istanbul Airport (IST) and Pegasus via Sabiha Gökçen (SAW). This is the most frequent and, as a rule, the cheapest option.
  • Warsaw — LOT Polish Airlines.
  • Munich and Frankfurt — Lufthansa.
