Vilnius – Tbilisi flight time by connection
The distance between Vilnius and Tbilisi is roughly 2,000 kilometres as the crow flies, but there is currently no scheduled non-stop flight on the route, so the total journey time is set by the transfer city and the length of the layover.
- Via Riga (airBaltic) — usually from about 7 hours; in terms of time this is most often the shortest option.
- Via Istanbul (Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines) — around 7–8 hours, and longer if the layover is a long one.
- Via Warsaw (LOT Airlines) — around 8 hours or more.
Keep the time difference in mind as well: Georgia is 2 hours ahead of Lithuania in winter and 1 hour ahead in summer, because Georgia does not change its clocks seasonally.
The airports: Vilnius (VNO) and Tbilisi (TBS)
- Vilnius Airport (VNO) — it sits only a few kilometres from the city centre, so the transfer into town normally takes 10–15 minutes. Both a city bus and a short rail link to the central station are available.
- Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) — about 17 kilometres from the city centre. City bus no. 37 runs from the airport towards the centre, and taxis are available as well.
When you book a connecting flight, check carefully whether both legs are on a single ticket. On one ticket your baggage is normally checked through to the final destination, and if the first flight is delayed the airline rebooks you onto the next one itself. With separately purchased tickets that responsibility stays with the passenger.
Useful information for travellers
- Visas: Lithuania is part of the Schengen area — Georgian citizens holding a biometric passport do not need a visa for a short trip (up to 90 days in any 180-day period). Lithuanian citizens can likewise enter Georgia without a visa.
- Currency: Lithuania uses the euro (EUR), Georgia the lari (GEL).
- Seasons: fares are highest in summer and over the New Year holidays, while spring and autumn are both cheaper and more comfortable for travelling.
- Transfers and documents: a transit visa is not required when changing planes inside the Schengen area (Riga, Warsaw) if the Georgian traveller is using the visa-free regime; when connecting in Istanbul you normally do not need to leave the airport transit area at all.
