Baku Batumi Flights – Cheap Air Tickets

If you are planning a trip from Baku to Batumi, this article will help you plan the flight without leaving home, buy your air tickets at a low price and reach your destination with ease.

Which airlines operate flights from Baku to Batumi?

Direct flights from Baku to Batumi Airport are offered by Azal Airlines, with a flight time of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The route is also served by the Turkish carriers Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines, which fly via Istanbul with just one stop, so after a few hours of waiting you will land at Batumi Airport.

How long does the flight from Baku to Batumi take?

As noted above, a direct flight takes 1 hour and 30 minutes. With one stop, the total travel time depends on how long you wait at the transit airport, but it usually adds up to roughly 7–9 hours.

One piece of advice: if you choose a flight with a stopover, allow at least 2 hours between the two legs — especially if the transit airport is large and busy, or if it is your first time there — so that you do not risk missing your connection.

How to find cheap air tickets from Baku to Batumi?

• Book your tickets 1.5–2 months in advance.
• Buy both legs of a return trip at the same time.
• Consider low-cost airlines.
• Travel with hand luggage only.
• Plan your trip outside the high season.

Airports on the Baku–Batumi route

• Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) — the main airport of Baku, located roughly 20 km north-east of the city centre. When searching for tickets you will often see Baku listed under its city code, BAK, which covers this airport.
• Alexander Kartveli Batumi International Airport (BUS) — only about 2 km south of central Batumi, which makes getting from the terminal into town quick and inexpensive.

What is worth knowing before you travel

• The flying distance from Baku to Batumi is roughly 700 kilometres.
• Azerbaijan and Georgia share the same time zone (UTC+4) and neither country switches to summer time, so there is no need to change your watch.
• A large share of the flights to Batumi Airport are seasonal: the schedule is at its richest in summer and thins out noticeably in winter. Before you settle on a date, check whether the flight actually operates on that particular day.
• Georgian citizens do not need a visa to travel to Azerbaijan, but it is still worth checking the current entry and travel-document requirements with official sources before departure, as the rules change from time to time.

An alternative: Baku to Tbilisi, then on to Batumi

If there is no direct flight on the date you want, or the fare is high, consider flying from Baku to Tbilisi instead — that route operates year-round and far more frequently. From Tbilisi to Batumi (about 370 kilometres) you can continue by train, bus or car, a journey that takes roughly 5–6 hours depending on the type of transport.

Keep in mind that when the flight and the overland leg are bought separately, any delay is your own responsibility, so leave yourself a comfortable time buffer when booking.

Frequently asked questions

What are the baggage rules on this route?

The baggage allowance depends on the airline and on the fare you choose. The cheapest low-cost fares often include only a small piece of hand luggage, while checked baggage is a paid extra. Adding baggage in advance, while you are buying the ticket, is almost always cheaper than paying for it at the airport.

How early should I get to the airport?

For an international flight, arriving 2–3 hours before departure is a safe margin. If your airline offers online check-in, use it — it noticeably cuts the time you spend queueing.

Do I need an extra visa if I fly via Istanbul?

Georgian citizens do not need a visa for Türkiye, so transiting through Istanbul does not normally involve any additional formalities. If you hold another citizenship, check the transit requirements in advance.

Can a ticket be refunded or the date changed?

That depends on the fare conditions: the cheapest tickets are often non-refundable, and changing the date usually carries a fee. Always read the fare rules before you buy.

When are tickets cheapest?

Batumi is primarily a summer destination, so fares peak in July and August. Outside the high season — in late autumn and early spring — tickets are comparatively cheap, although the choice of flights is also smaller at that time.
